A Tuesday night in the newsroom

For this week’s blog, I’d like to switch it up a bit and use an idea that was brainstormed in my Journalism II class, and that is to blog on a Tuesday night to share information on what’s going on in the newsroom. For those of you who are not familiar with The Loquitur, let me shed some insight: it’s Cabrini College’s student-run award-winning newspaper, and the layout process takes place every Monday and Tuesday night. Please excuse me if I’m rambling on, it’s 3:18 a.m. and I am still  in the newsroom along with the other hard-working editors as we strive to produce the 50th Anniversary Edition of the Loquitur. Currently, we are copy editing and fixing corrections, which is very time consuming since we are short-staffed. But this long process of layout pays off in the end, well at least on Thursdays when we hold a print copy in our hands. This is an issue you don’t want to miss! No way Kanye!

So as most of you know, by most of you I mean those who have watched the VMA’s or have heard about the outrageous scandal, Kanye West is now on my bad side. He rudely interupted Taylor Swift’s acceptance speech for her first moon man with the category of Best Female Video. Her smashing single, You Belong With Me, beat the other talented nominees and as she excitedly went up stage – not even a minute into her speech, Kanye West out of nowhere barged onto stage and grabbed the mic to say that Beyonce had the best video of the year hands down, and made it seem that Taylor shouldn’t have won. Taylor stood there, and right after the show cut to advertisements. My question is, what is Kanye’s problem?! Of course Beyonce is an outstanding artist and performer, but the winners are chosen by fans, so in the category more people voted for Taylor – so clearly she deserved to win. It seems to me that Kanye just loves to get negative attention, because he is always doing scandalous things. Rumors have spread saying that Kanye was immediately kicked out of the show, and that his scheduled performance was cancelled and replaced by advertisements. Serves him right, that’s what he gets for ruining Taylor’s moment! But then, when Beyonce won Video of the Year, she did the most classy and most caring thing I have ever seen! She invited Taylor onstage to have her moment, and that was definitely the highlight of the show!

Until Kanye publicly apologizes, then I won’t dislike him as much. But for now, I’m going to dislike him all I want. Anyhow, I’ve come up with a name for my show! I tried to make it appropriate, but relating to the Thirsy Thursday theme, since you know..it’s on Thursday nights. It’s now called S.H.O.T.s: Super Hot Online Thursday’s with Gianna! So listen up between 7 to 9 each and every Thursday!

Shew Swine, don’t bother me!

So if you aren’t aware, Cabrini has had it’s swine outbreak. Yes, I am serious, so grab your gauze mask and load up on the Purell because the swine is coming! And unfortunately for us hard-working comm. majors, we’re getting knocked down one by one due to lack of sleep, tons of stress, and piles of work. So if you feel your immune system weakening, i suggest you load up on the Vitamin C, get lots of sleep, and down hot beverages and soups; but most importantly, listen to my show on wybf.com every Thursday night between 7 to 9 p.m.! All of your swine worries will vanish as I provide you all with music and entertainment!
