What’s in and what’s out this season

So as I was bringing back my fall and winter wardrobe and saying my goodbyes to my summer clothing, I came across a lot of fashion fads.

In the summer, less is more. Short shorts and little tank-tops seem to be in every girls closet. But how do you adjust in the Fall and Winter? I always hear friends saying they hate dressing accordingly to the chilly weather, but it has its pros and cons.

So what’s in for this season? Let’s talk about trends that always reappear every year without getting kicked-off the runway:

1. Boots. There are so many different styles, from cowboy boots to plain suede – boots are the perfect Fall and Winter shoe. What I have noticed to be a hit is the more vintage your shoe looks, the more of a stylish touch it adds to your outfit. Too achieve that look try Fryes, known as the all-American boot. For a less expensive approach, Target has the mock of the Frye harness boot for less than $60.

2. Sweater dresses. Sweater dresses can be worn on all types of occasions and are very comfortable. From casual to night-out, you can dress up or dress down a sweater dress with the right accessories and shoes. Perfect for going to work or going out for a night on the town.

3. Plaid tops. Plaid is often worn all year round, but is most appropriate for Fall and Winter. WARNING: Please wear your plaid shirts loosely, nothing looks worse than seeing a guy or girl rocking a tight-fitted plaid shirt. So spare us all from seeing your skin begging to expose from the size-too-small plaid shirt. To achieve a comfy and homely look, add accessories to pair off with cute shoes so that you won’t look like you just got done work on the farm.

It’s easy to dress for the cold weather, just avoid a few of these trends..well they aren’t even trends, so let’s call them fashion disasters:

1. Leggings with the rips down the side: Unless you fought a tiger in the wilderness and survived there is no reason why anyone should wear leggings with multiple rips down each leg. This look does not only scream trashy, it screams for unwanted attention. If you have a pair, please get rid of this fashion disaster!

2. Clogs. Save it for the Yodelers in Sweden, or for Shirley Temple. Clogs might have seemed cool if you were forced by your mother to wear them as a child, but now that you dress yourself and make your own fashion decisions, cross this one out your list.

3. Christmas sweaters. ONLY and I say ONLY wear a Christmas sweater if you are attending a Christmas sweater party that includes shame and alcohol. These sweaters are so 1980. Only a grandma or grandpa could pull this off..maybe. I was in Express and saw a men’s Christmas sweater that screamed to be taken off the rack. Don’t be the fool wearing it.

So now you know what I think is in and what should never be in for this season. Go out there and be a trendsetter. One last hoorah:

Trend that needs to be exposed: Lace. Lace has been everywhere this season and will surely reappear throughout seasons to come.

Trend that needs to be unleashed to the furnace: Overly distressed denim. Don’t get me wrong, a little bit of distress adds a pop to plain, boring denim but too much is definitely too much. This is not the Jersey Shore. Overly distressed denim is not cool, “you dirty little hamster.”

New Trends in Media Before Holiday Season

It’s been over a year since I last blogged, so I figured why not start back up again! I love this time of year, when Fall weather kicks in and the holidays are slowly approaching (well, rather quickly since B101 is already playing Christmas music before Thanksgiving.) I always get excited when something new comes out before the holidays, lately it’s just video games and movies.

One in particular being “Call of Duty: Black Ops.” Now, if your friends, relatives or boyfriend owns this game, be prepared to not communicate with them for awhile for they will be communicating with other Black Ops feigns on Xbox Live. What’s so great about Black Ops? I’d rather play NHL 11, maybe because I’m not down for all the blood killing war-type games. Or maybe because I’m just into sports..okay now I am off topic.

Apple recently launched a new version of the Macbook Air. It seems like the Apple company never fails to launch a new non-conflict free product before the holiday season.

Another pre-holiday trend are movies, especially the Twilight series (all but Eclipse released in theaters before the holidays), but this year Harry Potter steals the spotlight with part one of “Deathly Hollows.” For all of you raging wizard fans out there, you will not want to miss it. Unfortunately, my Harry Potter craze dwindled down as I approached high school, but I know a lot of young adults who will be decked out in their Hogwarts gear for the premiere showing.

Next time I will blog about late Fall fashion trends, what’s in and what needs to be out! For media trends here’s what I think..

Gadget that’s good: Kinect for Xbox 360. How ironic, I was just mentioning Black Ops and NHL 11…Kinect for Xbox 360 allows you to be the controller (I swear, this whole techonology into the future is getting a little out of hand..get it? No hands on the controller?..Okay I’m done.) Goodbye Wii, looks like you’ve got yourself some competition.

Gadget that needs to go: Gameboy. Now I don’t mean to be a hater, when I was a youngin’ Gameboy was the way to go. This isn’t the “Weird Science” era anymore, times are changing and you need to follow along with the newest technology trends. But if you still keep one of these in your room, closet or in your man cave please do us all a favor and recycle it and buy yourself a Playstation or something.

Balloon boy hoax flies in the sky

Okay, okay so let me get this straight…Falcon admitted that the balloon incident was just a publicity stunt?! Radio stations throughout the Philadelphia area played the interview where Falcon admits to the reporter that he thought this was for a TV show. It’s like okay balloon boy’s parents, now you’re both screwed. They should have never trusted a six year old with keeping the information of the scheme because Falcon was obviously nervous by the questions of the reporter that he came to his senses and did what any other scared six year old would do – spill the beans. And I think it’s hilarious that this boy will forever be known as “balloon boy,” who would actually want that name branded to them? I’m sure he doesn’t know better now, but wait til he tries to get a date when he’s a teenager. The girl’s parents will be like “Oh sweetie, you’re going on a date with balloon boy? His parents will probably set you both up on a balloon air-craft model for a publicity stunt!” And it’s not the little boy’s fault, he did come out with the truth, so I commend him for that. Also it’s easy for children to be manipulated and told what to do, especially if it’s demanded by your own parents. I’m sure he was scared that if he didn’t follow up with hiding in the attic for God knows how long, then he would have his action figures taken away or something. I just think it is crazy how people are trying to scam money these days. But seriously, what else do you expect from a family who has had a spot in reality TV? (Yes, the Heene family has been on the ridiculous show “Wife Swap.”) Well the Heene’s sure learned their lesson by now after being told that if proven guilty they will be charged with up to six years in prison. Speaking of this whole shabam, The Dirt Sheet will be talking more about this hoax, so on Thursday log onto www.theloquitur.com to watch this week’s episode of Loqation to find out what we say! Unbelieveable Victory(Great comeback)-Rockies+phillies phever=RED OCTOBER

No one ever said I was good at math, but this equation makes up for all the years I have struggled in what felt like never ending math classes. (Thank God I am through with math!) Anyhow, Game 4 against the Rockies at the Coors’s stadium in Colorado was the most amazing game I have seen in a long time. It goes to show the Phillies fans how the players truly play their hearts out, even in the ninth inning with no time to spare. We were down four to two, and I couldn’t believe it; I thought for sure we had this game in the bag. But then, all thanks to Jason Werth and Ryan Howard who made huge contributions to tie and win the game for us. It was really unbelievable. I mean, I know the Phillies have over 40 games before Post Season where they have scored runs and took the lead at the end of the game, but how outstanding was it to see it happen in an all out battle for victory against the Rockies? Definitely one of the best games thus far that I have seen in awhile. If you haven’t read my Phillies article for the Loquitur, check it out!

A Tuesday night in the newsroom

For this week’s blog, I’d like to switch it up a bit and use an idea that was brainstormed in my Journalism II class, and that is to blog on a Tuesday night to share information on what’s going on in the newsroom. For those of you who are not familiar with The Loquitur, let me shed some insight: it’s Cabrini College’s student-run award-winning newspaper, and the layout process takes place every Monday and Tuesday night. Please excuse me if I’m rambling on, it’s 3:18 a.m. and I am still in the newsroom along with the other hard-working editors as we strive to produce the 50th Anniversary Edition of the Loquitur. Currently, we are copy editing and fixing corrections, which is very time consuming since we are short-staffed. But this long process of layout pays off in the end, well at least on Thursdays when we hold a print copy in our hands. This is an issue you don’t want to miss! No way Kanye!

So as most of you know, by most of you I mean those who have watched the VMA’s or have heard about the outrageous scandal, Kanye West is now on my bad side. He rudely interupted Taylor Swift’s acceptance speech for her first moon man with the category of Best Female Video. Her smashing single, You Belong With Me, beat the other talented nominees and as she excitedly went up stage – not even a minute into her speech, Kanye West out of nowhere barged onto stage and grabbed the mic to say that Beyonce had the best video of the year hands down, and made it seem that Taylor shouldn’t have won. Taylor stood there, and right after the show cut to advertisements. My question is, what is Kanye’s problem?! Of course Beyonce is an outstanding artist and performer, but the winners are chosen by fans, so in the category more people voted for Taylor – so clearly she deserved to win. It seems to me that Kanye just loves to get negative attention, because he is always doing scandalous things. Rumors have spread saying that Kanye was immediately kicked out of the show, and that his scheduled performance was cancelled and replaced by advertisements. Serves him right, that’s what he gets for ruining Taylor’s moment! But then, when Beyonce won Video of the Year, she did the most classy and most caring thing I have ever seen! She invited Taylor onstage to have her moment, and that was definitely the highlight of the show!

Until Kanye publicly apologizes, then I won’t dislike him as much. But for now, I’m going to dislike him all I want. Anyhow, I’ve come up with a name for my show! I tried to make it appropriate, but relating to the Thirsy Thursday theme, since you know..it’s on Thursday nights. It’s now called S.H.O.T.s: Super Hot Online Thursday’s with Gianna! So listen up between 7 to 9 each and every Thursday!

Shew Swine, don’t bother me!

So if you aren’t aware, Cabrini has had it’s swine outbreak. Yes, I am serious, so grab your gauze mask and load up on the Purell because the swine is coming! And unfortunately for us hard-working comm. majors, we’re getting knocked down one by one due to lack of sleep, tons of stress, and piles of work. So if you feel your immune system weakening, i suggest you load up on the Vitamin C, get lots of sleep, and down hot beverages and soups; but most importantly, listen to my show on wybf.com every Thursday night between 7 to 9 p.m.! All of your swine worries will vanish as I provide you all with music and entertainment! Feel free to call in and make requests, or to just chat with me on the air, I like to chat. My last blog for the semester?!

Has it really come down to the last blog of the semester?..Already?! Wow, this semester went by super fast! And surprisingly, I am kind of saddened that this is my last blog for the semester. Speaking of lasts of the semester, my last show of the semester is this Tuesday, April 28th =( BOO HOO. I am really sad! No more Wi-Fi at 5…I need a new name for my show, any takers? Please comment the blog if you have any suggestions, I would really appreciate it! I’m pretty sure my show next semester will be on Thursday’s between 7-9 p.m. So please tune in to my show! Sorry about not blogging las week..

Didja miss me?! Sure ya did! Who are you fooling?..

I’m going to try something new, since I always listen to music, I am going to post on here what I am currently listening to, instead of those corny “moods” things where you enter how you’re feeling, my songs will determine how I feel, and since I always play music, I figured why not.

Currently listening to: Jai Ho, A R Rahman and The Pussycat Dolls, Slumdog Millionaire soundtrack.

Anyhow, PHILLY SPORTS TEAMS RULED THE WORLD TODAY! The Phillies, Flyers, and Sixers all won today! GOOOOOOO PHILLY! Completely made my day..

So last week for my show, I tried to do something that I have never tried before, unfortunately it failed miserably. I wanted listeners to call in, briefly sharing their favorite Harry Kalas memory. For some reason, no one called in =( Am I that bad of a DJ that no one listens to my shows? Maybe I smell bad or something.. who knows. But please, listen to me. Or my future career will shatter. It’s all on you America. I’ll keep you entertained, I promise; my music will handle that for me. I play a wide selection! I don’t know how else to convince you guys to listen, i sound like a collection caller/solicitor person. Maybe I should start giving out prizes or something.. but I can’t sorry, I’m broke. FML. Just another “Manic Monday”

So let me start off by saying, I just got home and it is 10:00! I went to work at 10 a.m., went to school at 2:00 and left school around 9:45! If manic Monday needed a definition..my Monday would be a prime example! So on a brighter note: FUNNY FEST IS THIS FRIDAY! (April 3) SIGN UP! all of you! or come out and support the contestants =)
